Reducing the fatality and injury rates of young people
bstreetsmart online – part of the bstreetsmart road safety program – aims to reduce the fatality and injury rates of young people by promoting safe behaviour as drivers, riders and passengers.
Targeted towards students in years 10-12, bstreetsmart online uses a series of video sessions and other resources focused on specific aspects of road safety to support the road safety content in the PDHPE (Personal Development, Health and Physical Education) curriculum. Sessions are designed for teachers to view on-line with their PDHPE class and link the video excursion to relevant content in the PDHPE curriculum.
Each session is self-contained, but all have the underlying theme that young people have a responsibility for making decisions as drivers, riders, passengers or pedestrians.
Information is provided on how to reduce risk taking behaviour through greater awareness of the consequences of distracted driving, speeding, drink and drug driving and driver fatigue. There is also information on the safety features of vehicles and how these are tested.
